Nauvoo
Over Memorial weekend we took a trip to Nauvoo, Il. It was a great trip. It is amazing to see how the church has been able to restore this little town into such a neat historical place to visit. It hit me that if it wasn't for Emma Smith and the R-LDS staying behind in Nauvoo most of what is now there would have probably been lost. We stayed in the Woodruff Hotel, which was an original building so was very charming. We saw all the old town, Smith's old home, the old church, the water front, where Jospeph and Hyrum were buried. We drove to Carthage and saw the jail they were in when they died. The door was original with the bullet holes. Such a sad but very touching experience that made us so very grateful for our first latter day Prophet and his family and all they sacrificed. We played pioneer games and saw a cute play put on by the missionaries. And then the last day our trip overlapped with a couple friends from dental school who were also visiting so we had some ice cream with the Stevens and Bostons. It's always lots of fun to catch up with old friends.
